Good at removing dirt from shoes
Stylish, modern designs
More expensive than your basic doormat
Doormats are more than just something to wipe your feet on and walk all over—they showcase your style right at the threshold of your home.
Heymat (available at Heymat) makes modern and functional Scandinavian doormats that go above and beyond the average woven variety. The design of Heymat doormats is stunning, with prints and patterns made from sustainable materials that you'll be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. These doormats are also functional by helping to keep dirt, dust, debris, and grit from entering your home.
Heymat sells for about the same price as a Ruggable doormat, which we're big fans of here at Reviewed. However, Heymat is more expensive than your everyday $20 welcome mat.
We decided to see if whether Heymat is worth the higher-than-average price tag, so we tested one.
Heymat takes believes that home goods should be both practical and stylish.
Heymat is a company from Norway that collaborates with designers to create award-winning Scandinavian doormats. Collections are functional and good-looking, guaranteed to ensure you won't have a doormat like anyone else on your street or in your building.
The name Heymat comes from the word heimat, which means to return home in Norwegian, and it is a fun tidbit to think about every time you open your front door.
Heymat has an impressive collection of modern doormat designs that add color and grounding to your entrance. The mats are in both neutral and bold colors, like vibrant and eye-catching geometric patterns and sleek one-color options with mesmerizing 3D designs.
In addition to doormats, Heymat also sells a variety of indoor, short-pile mats that function as rugs. You can shop Heymat directly via the online store or find them in stores like Design Within Reach, which has locations throughout the U.S.
Since your doormat is likely to see a lot of traffic from guests, Heymat makes pretty wear-resistant to the elements.
Heymat doormats are recycled plastic bottles using PET, and the brand emphasizes working toward “a more circular and sustainable manufacturing process.”
Some doormats, like woven doormats, tend to shed and fray over time. That is not the case with Heymat doormats, as these are well-made and can handle plenty of wear and tear.
I also didn’t notice any issues when I wiped my shoes on the mat—everything looks good as new.
Beyond looking wavy, rounded, and striped, the raised elements of Heymat’s doormats help clean shoes and keep dirt from coming into your home.
With some doormats, you have to really wipe your feet on to rid the debris from your shoes, but Heymat captures particles before someone steps into your house. The rough surface pulls debris from shoes and protects your porch or flooring at the same time.
Plus, the mats are easy to clean with a shake and a vacuum, and they don’t shed or fade over time like cheaper alternatives tend to.
The mats are made for indoor and outdoor use, so you can place them in spots right outside the door or in an entryway where you get heavy traffic.
At Heymat, you can play around with fun patterns and bold colors, so we settled on the Lime Candycane Grid doormat.
Most of Heymat’s modern door mats come in two sizes: 24 inches x 35 inches, and 33 inches x 51 inches.
I love having two options because you can use these mats in different spots throughout your home. The larger size is great for wider doors, like double sliding glass doors, and porch and patio surfaces.
Some of Heymat’s designs come in additional sizes, with options for runners.
The only negative we can find is the price tag—these doormats definitely are costlier than what you'll find at Target or Walmart. However, considering these doormats are professionally designed and sustainably made, the above-average price tag is easier to understand. It's like paying for a piece of art—but instead it's your doormat.
Whether you consider a doormat a necessity or a splurge, purchasing a durable one made from recycled materials that mirror your home's look and feel is a win-win in my book.
Not only will Heymat's doormats will look great around your home, but they're also a responsible buy if you're eco-conscious.
With color block options like the Mix and Mix Teklan to a neutral option like Hand or the 3D style Sjø, there are plenty of beautiful Scandinavian-inspired doormats that will make your house feel like a home from the first step inside.
Heymat doormats are durable, easy to clean, and with several size selections, you’ll find just what you need no matter the size of your front door.
At Heymat, you can find modern and sustainable doormat options for the inside and outside of your home.
